`with WINGS and ROOTS`. Zugehörigkeitsmodelle in Berlin und New York

Zugehörigkeit wird auch in modernen Einwanderungsgesellschaften weiterhin über nationale, ethnische und religiöse Identität definiert. Inwiefern dieses auf Herkunft festgelegte Zugehörigkeitsmodell auf einzelne Menschen zutrifft, thematisiert das Dokumentarfilmprojekt `with WINGS and ROOTS`. Junge Migrantinnen und Migranten aus Berlin und New York, die für die globale Migration nach Europa und Nordamerika exemplarisch sind, kommen im Film zu Wort. Wessen Geschichte wird erzählt, wenn es um Migration geht? Wie können Diskussionen über Zugehörigkeit und Repräsentation neu gedacht werden?

`with WINGS and ROOTS` ist ein medienübergreifendes Dokumentarfilmprojekt, das die Migrationsdebatten in Deutschland und den USA aus den Augen von in Berlin und New York lebenden Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund der zweiten Generation betrachtet. Das Projekt umfasst einen Dokumentarfilm, eine interaktive Website und mehrere Kurzfilme.

Im Rahmen des Filmabends und der Diskussion werden die beiden bisher veröffentlichten Kurzfilme `Article of Faith` und `Where are you from from?` gezeigt sowie das neueste Vorhaben des Projektes, eine  Interaktive Webseite zur Migrationsgeschichte beider Länder, vorgestellt.

In modern migration societies ‘belonging’ is often still defined through national, ethnic and religious identities. In how far these concepts of belonging have value for individuals is the theme of the documentary film project “with WINGS and ROOTS”. Second generation migrants living in Berlin and New York, the two cities, exemplary for global migration to North America and Europe, are featured in the film. Whose stories are told, when it concerns migration? How can the discussions on representation and belonging be considered anew?


“with WINGS and ROOTS” is a multimedia documentary film project, that considers the migration debates in Germany and the U.S.A. through the eyes of second generation migrants living in Berlin and New York. The project includes a documentary film, an interactive website, and several short films that present the two cities, exemplary for global migration to North America and Europe.

As part of the evening the two released short films “Article of Faith” and “Where are you from from?” will be shown and the most recent work of the project, an interactive website on migration history of both countries will be presented.
