Workshop: WomenLead in Promoting Peace and Stability
in Washington, DC
WomenLead is CEDPA’s (Centre for
Development and Population Activities)
flagship training program. It builds
leadership abilities, technical expertise
and program management skills of women
dedicated to making a difference on a range
of critical issues.<br>
<br>
WomenLead offers up-to-date technical
knowledge and successful approaches for
community and civil society participation
in reconstructing and revitalizing
essential institutions and services;
promoting multisectoral alliances and
increased accountability; and strengthening
women’s participation in political and
decision-making processes. It provides
improved competencies in leadership,
management, fundraising, communications and
advocacy. The workshop includes site visits
to related programs, NGOs and donors.<br>

Major workshop themes include:<br>
- <b>Gender and Governance</b>: conduct
gender analysis of post-conflict policies,
programs and actions; examine and apply
tools to address gender dimensions; assess
impact of different stages of conflict on
women’s lives; explore the role of women in
peace building efforts<br>
<br>
- <b> Contextual Analysis and Advocacy</b>:
assess political/policy environments and
their impact on social, economic and
political programs and participation;
understand women’s human rights and
international conventions; build advocacy
skills; and develop strategies for building
networks<br>
- <b> The Continuum of Conflict and A
Culture of Peace</b>: apply conflict
analysis tools and indicators; analyze
critical elements of pre-conflict, conflict
and post-conflict situations and develop
responsive strategies<br>
- <b>Management</b>: develop and apply
tools and techniques for effective human,
financial and other institutional resource
management; assess and develop strategies
for organizational sustainability<br>
- <b> Dimensions of Leadership</b>:
identify and strengthen personal and
professional leadership traits to build
confidence and design and implement
institutional, community and national
programs<br>
- <b>Strategic Communications</b>:
understand and apply strategic
communication techniques to educate,
motivate and mobilize communities, decision
makers, and institutions<br>
<br>
<b>Participants</b>:<br>
CEDPA recruits women with a high level of
motivation, the ability to articulate their
intentions, and a strong desire to make a
difference in their communities. This
workshop is designed for early and
mid-career women from NGOs, faith-based
organizations, advocacy groups, government,
the private sector and political
institutions who work in post-conflict
reconstruction at community, sub-national
or national levels. Fluency in English is
required.<br>
